If you are ever flung back in time, reincarnated, step through a portal into another world, or in any other way turned into an isekai protagonist...and you want to know what a centimeter is...
If there are honey bees (presuming they are honeybee-sized, and not like gargantuan monster bees), start constructing bee frame boxes. Make the gaps progressively, incrementally, minisculely larger and larger. You will find some of them get glued together, usually in the too small and the too large category areas.
You will also find some of them that are not. In the range of the smallest to the largest that are not, you will find your 6mm to 9mm range.
Measure it all carefully. Divide it up appropriately, with the smallest gap getting 6 portions, the largest getting 9, and compare those portion sizes to each other. Once you are certain that the 6mm is 2/3rds the size of the 9mm, add 1 more mm to the 9mm gap, and that is your centimeter.
With the centimeter established, you can now establish a meter (100 centimeters).
Once you have established a meter, you can establish time itself. Make a pendulum that is 99.4cm from its pivote point at the top to the bottom of its weight (any weight, so long as it holds the string straight). The unique property of gravity on Earth (or an Earth-like world) is that it takes exactly 1 second at this length for a pendulum to swing from side to side.
You now have established a way to calculate time.
Once you have established a centimeter and a meter, you can establish metric volumes (a cubic cc or cc = 1 ml, and 1000 of those gets you a liter, which is very close to 1 quart for measuring (if you absolutely need imperial measuring standards for cooking: 1 quart = 4 cups, 4 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, ao 16 to a cup and 64 to a quart), 3 teaspoons to 1 T, etc) 1 cubic centimeter of water at room temperature (65F-75F ish) at or near sea level weighs 1 gram. 1 cubic liter of water at the same temperature range & elevation weighs 1 kilogram.
Neat, huh? So! Now you have a consistent way to measure length, weight, volume, and time, and you may now re-create whatever science you may need in your new environment with a standardized system of measurements in a very easy to calculate base-10 system.
